From the past...

Christmas was formed in 1969 in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, out of the ashes of the cult underground psychedelic band Reign Ghost. In July 1970, Christmas released an independent self-titled debut that brought some media attention to the band and a contract with the Daffodil Records label. In December 1970, less than six months after the release of the debut, Christmas released their debut Daffodil Records album entitled Heritage. Christmas was comprised of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Bob Bryden, bass Tyler Raizenne, drummer Rich Richter, and Robert Bulger on guitars, all of whom were still in their teens. The album gathered good reviews and was well received by critics but it was not commercially viable because the long songs and hard rock sound. It became an instant favorite in the underground music scene just about everywhere but in Canada. Despite the international response to the album, Heritage proved to be the last release by the band under the name Christmas due to management problems and difficulty with the direction of the next album. Consequently, Christmas broke up in late 1971 only to resurface the following year, lineup intact, under the name the Spirit of Christmas.

Glimpses of Ontario 1942 Technicolor

Times have changed, in my opinion not always for the better, I prefer a more simple lifestyle. Yet it is amazing to see how far we have come and built such a great and beautiful province.

My interview with Model/dancer/ up and coming actress.... Vanessa Lai.

I plan to use this blog for many reasons, some of those reasons are to give exposure to Ontario's large amount of talent. Established or not, it is all about spreading the word, getting noticed or having more
people familiar with what your all about.
This is Vanessa Lai she has quite the impressive list of achievements under her belt  and she is very ambitious at what she does.
Keef -Its a pleasure, please do tell everyone who you are, what you do and what your aspirations are?

Vanessa-My name's Vanessa Lai I was born and raised in the GTA. I am currently living in toronto as an aspiring model and actress. I started preforming when I was 5 taking dance lessons and went on to do that at a national competitive level. I fell into modeling as a fluke which lead into falling into acting as a fluke. I quickly fell in love with both professions and I hope to continue doing both for a very long time. I aspire to be as successful as I can be in the entertainment industry and hopefully inspire others along the way.

Keef-  Tell us a few things you have been involved in...

VanessaI just started acting in nov 2009. I did four episodes of the hbo and showcase series Body Language. I went in as a background dancer and the director Zalman King saw me and wanted to give me a role so the next day I came in and played my character and they asked me to return for a couple more days. I also just finished another hbo series called lingerie. As far as modelling goes I've done various calendars and magazine shoots throughout the years.

KeefYou were also the very 1st BITE.TV girl, how did that fall into place?

Vanessa -Well the bite girl was a comeptition basically I went head to head with another girl and won. It was really cool since it was up to the viewers to vote for me. I'm so glad I had so much support!

Keef
-  Now becoming more involved in acting, what do you feel you excel in most and what parts would you be best suited for?

Vanessa -Acting has been a huge challenge for me. I enjoy the roles I've played as the sly temptress, that's always fun! I'd really like to get into comdey. I've always appreciated a lot of comedians for what they do, from stand up to sitcoms. I'd like to be a part of making people laugh. There aren't nearly enough funny chicks out there!

Keef -What would you like to see more out of Canadian films. I find for the exception of horror movies, we do not go balls out crazy. This is just my opinion, what is your take on our industry?

Vanessa -Canadian films aren't given enough credit, they may not have the financial backing behind them but the stories are still pretty amazing. Horror is also a hard thing to conquere though. Its tricky, because you never know when you've gone too far. I see indie canadian film makers pushing the limits all the time and I applaud them for it.

Keef -If you got a break and some larger speaking rolls in a major film, who would be someone you would like to share screen time with?

Vanessa -There are quite a few people I'd like to share the screen with. I really respect leonardo dicaprio I think he's an amazing actor and really talented.

Keef - What does 2011 have in store for Vanessa Lai?

Vanessa -Well 2011 lingerie season 2 gets aired so you can watch out for me on that!! I play a lesbian. It wasn't a hard role though because my partner was pretty attractive!!

Keef -Well thank you Vanessa, I think we will definitely being seeing more of you down the road, weather it be T.V. or on the big screen. Thank you for your time, would you like to say thank you to anyone...

Vanessa -Thank yous go out to my friends and family for all of their love and support. Also to my wonderful agent for helping me get my name out there. And to those who have inspired me so much along the way and showing me that no dream is ever unattainable!

My interview with video/film director Tom Vujcic of REEL WOLF PRODUCTIONS....

Better late then never, I’m a busy guy and Tom is like 100 times more busy as I am…. But we made this happen.

I am a huge fan of La Coka Nostra and everyone involved, House of Pain, Slain and Ill Bill. Anxiously awaiting the release of ill bills newest album “Kill Devil Hills” I came across one of his newest videos “ILL BILL TV”

Right away I noticed the graffiti in the video… “I shot that, I filmed that!” I use to spend hours in all types weather filming and snapping pictures in these alleyways. Besides picking out graffiti, this video is grimy to the bone, which coincides with ILL Bill’s whole musical shabang.

I noticed the directors name, got on facebook, found him and strait up asked him if this was shot in Toronto.

He confirmed it, and I wasted no time in asking Tom for A Interview.

Keef – First off of, how did you land A video directorial for ill bills new album “Kill Devil Hills”?

Tom -I contacted Ill Bill online. He was coming to Canada for a tour. We’ve worked with various rappers within the underground rap scene; but Bill was one of the heavyweights. I’ve wanted to work with him not just because of the exposure; but also because I’m an Ill Bill fan and thought that the project would be exciting. His lyrics paint great visuals. I knew that the video would definitely stand out from other artists.

Keef - So what is the concept behind this great video?

Tom- The concept of the Ill Bill video was to have an adrenaline rushed action-packed shootout involving one man against numerous men in suits with masks. He goes through obstacles and engages in several gun battles which all end in bloodbath. The video is pretty violent but it's shown as very stylized violence. At the end it is revealed that the reason he was being hunted was because he had a copy of the Ill Bill DJ Muggs album. Once the video hit the net; I started reading different interpretations of the ending. There is an official meaning behind it but I would rather leave it open ended for the audience to interpret.

Keef - Who else have you worked with, and tell us about "REEL WOLF PRODUCTIONS"

Tom -Reel Wolf Productions is an independent film & video production company based out of Toronto. It was started in 2009 by me and my partner James Martin. James has also directed several videos for our company. We specialize mainly in music videos and short films. Our ultimate goal would be to make feature films. Music videos & short films are a great starting point for us to promote what we can do as filmmakers. We have worked with various artists. Other than Ill Bill & DJ Muggs we have also worked with other rap artists in the underground scene such as R.A. the Rugged Man from New York, Snowgoons from Germany, Lord Lhus from South Carolina & Riviera Regime from Toronto to name a few. We’ve also done a few non-hip-hop videos for rock and metal artists. This is something that we intend to do more of; so we can branch out and not just stick to one genre.

KEEF-What artist or group would you love to direct a video of?

Tom- There is so many artists in so many different genres that I would love to do a video for. If I were to pick one off the top of my head it would be for Serj Tankian. I was always a huge System of a Down fan; and I really loved his solo album. What I also liked is that he released a video for every song off of that album and each video was unique in its own way. They were all very powerful; some had strong social and political messages and some were just very obscure and quirky. He has a new album coming out so hopefully Serj reads this and considers me as a potential director haha!

Keef- How would some one go about contacting you in making a video

Tom- If you would like to contact us please email us at: info@reelwolf.com

However people have also contacted us through other online outlets such as MYSPACE,YOUTUBE, facebook etc.

Keef- You mentioned making feature films, what kind of film would you and partner James Martin like to make, genre wise ?

Tom -James and I are partners and share the same business ethic; but when it comes to film making we each have our own style and vision. We prefer that because it allows us to diversify our company. As for what kind of genres we would like to do. I think ultimately we would like to cover it all. There is not one genre that we would stick to since our influences stem from films of all decades and origins.

Keef - What is the best thing about Canadian Independent film, and what would you like to see more from it?

Tom -I love the Canadian Independent film scene because it's very open minded and our government really encourages the art of film making. There are several grants given out annually to film makers across the country to make art. My main frustration however is that no one sees our movies. I think the Canadian film scene should focus on investing money towards marketing/promotion. It's a shame when we have such great films coming out of this country and the furthest exposure that they get is within the indie scene.

Keef -What are your plans for 2010/2011?

Tom -For the remainder of this year we will be releasing several more music videos of all different genres. Our goal is to continuously outdo ourselves and in general put out videos that demonstrate our style as directors. Whether our budget is $10,000 or $500 we want to constantly challenge ourselves with what we can do. In 2011, we want to start pushing ourselves more towards the short film market. Be on the lookout for two short films we are producing which are set to be released next year.

Thanks Tom for taking time out of your busy schedule. I am loving the work you guys do, and so do many others.

Interview with rising Hip Hop artist... FLO!

This is my 1st online interview for this blog, and I would like to introduce everyone to Pictons own “FLO”

Keef- Whats up flo?

Flo- SUP!

KEEF – 1st off how did you get into hiphop and how did you get the name FLO?

Flo - I use call myself ”Backwordz” and I didn’t like it, so I went with WhiteFlo, then dropped the white, and kept Flo, its how I spit… with flow! I got into hip hop about 6 years ago, I was 15 writing rhymes free styling over beats. I was about 18 when I recorded my 1st song with Static the mic addict in Canmore Alberta.

Keef- How did you hook up with Static?

Flo- I got to know him threw my job, I was painting a hostel, he was working there also. He said he was doing the local open mic, I was stoked because he was like my idol because he was doing it!
Shows, writing, recording and we just ended up doing my 1st recorded track, “POCKETS”
Then I tore my Acl And Meniscus in my knee while skateboarding.
That brought me back to Ontario and I met this guy who goes by the name of
‘Illest Marx” who at the time lived in my home town of Picton.

KEEF- So what happened from there.

Flo- I freestyled for him and blew him away, and from there I became his protégé. He took me to DC STUDIOS located in Picton where he was signed. I showed up and freestyled and they were like WTF! They loved it and from there I signed with DC, and they help me get this far so far. I got to give a big thanks to “Alex the Heist Herst” my producer, he has helped me out a lot. Also DJ Lone Ronnin, he has shown me different styles I did not listen to before like Brother Ali, Slug, indi stuff. I was caught up in Eminem, Pac and Lil’Wayne

KEEF- Yo, no offence but I hate Lil Wayne, you ever listen to LA COKA NOSTRA?

Flo- Nope, but I will be checkin it now, I am so open to the new.

Keef- Who is your favorite Canadian M.C.’s

Flo- Choclair, Spesh K, Wordburglar, Mr. Burns, Classified, BIG UPS!

Keef- Yeah Wordburglar is dope!
So where do you see yourself in a few years, still involved in music?

Flo- I hope to be doing more shows, more CD’s, I think the name FLO will be well known in Ontario.

Keef- Well this is why I made this blog, to get people like yourself noticed.

Flo- I want to be heard.

Keef – To tell you the truth, I HATE so much Hip Hop right now. I was on facebook and WORDBURGLAR posted your video. I was like “What is this low budgeted shit?” It started up and I was like “YO HE GOT SOME SKILLS!”

Flo- thanks man, I aint got a dime, but I grind, I do what I can do, and what I can.

Keef- it’s the struggle, I respect that!

Flo- I hope for one day it to be a jiffy, and I can just run with it, NO STRESS!

KEEF- Well the song is very catchy!

Flo – great track, one of my best!

Keef- thanks Flo, all the best!

Flo- Peace!

In closing, FLO has the potential to go places with his music. He has all the ingredients to be famous, he comes clean, he is staying true and he has hunger.
Wanna here more…
